From the very beginning of Campaign 4, recently appointed game master Brennan Lee Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with rich lore, a colorful mix of personalities, and a gripping narrative featuring divine entities, fiends, and sinister influences expanding in influence within Dol-Makjar.
Note: Key plot points for the third episode of Campaign 4 follow below.
The Combat-Oriented Party Introduced
Episode 3 ended with a dramatic pause and introduced the initial group of adventurers who will branch out from the central cast to undertake their independent quest, apart from the other two tables.
This warrior group consists of the determined fighter (portrayed by Travis), the agile character (Laura Bailey), the strong-willed figure (Whitney Moore), Wicander (the player), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie Daymond).
The Reason for Division
Considering a large ensemble, it was obvious from the beginning that maintaining everyone at a single group would be impossible.
This explains, the initial installments of Campaign 4 serve as an Overture, weaving together the personal journeys before splitting into three smaller tables: Fighters, Planners, and Explorers.
Characteristics of the Combat Party
As described by the DM, the combat-focused party is for adventurers who enjoy a typically action-packed fight-heavy gameplay experience where diplomatic options are few and far between.
At first glance, figures such as the hesitant healer Wicander Halovar might appear out of place, but the developments of episode 3 show why these five characters are best suited for the warrior group.
Motivations for Departure
For one thing, the team understands precisely where to go next after a intense opening clash with the antagonists.
An old friend of Thjazi—whose demise initiated the story’s plot—manipulated The Crow Keepers for his selfish purposes, invading Thjazi’s hideout, striking the character, and taking all the magical artifacts to sell off.
Casimir then cleared his liabilities and ran away to a fortified location in Gormalay, Timmony, north of Dol-Makjar, with Cyd pursuing him.
Personal Motivations
Additionally, each member has a personal reason to depart the urban setting:
- Thimble, as the close ally and trusted friend, wants revenge.
- Kattigan knows the northern area and warns that it is a hostile location.
- The strong character and The cleric, having defied his family’s wishes to kill the fighter and instead freed him, have no safe haven.
- However, their position as prominent individuals in House Halovar could assist the team enter places they usually can’t.
- Additionally, The grateful character swore a life debt to The cleric for his salvation and will now accompany him anywhere.
Fugitives
In addition, all of them are hunted by the powers that control the setting for a range of causes, making remaining behind dangerous:
- The rogue and The character are recognized lawbreakers.
- The strong figure and Wicander turned against the influential house and the horde of evil beings they are aligned with.
- The fighter is marked for death by House Halovar.
This leaves them no alternative but to journey toward the northern region in search of Casimir.
