Around twenty-five thousand homes in south-east Queensland woke up experiencing outages on Monday morning after powerful weather events passed over the state, producing wind gusts reaching over 100 km/h.

Substantial Frozen Precipitation and Extensive Destruction

Residents reported substantial frozen pellets measuring up to seven centimeters in some areas. Meteorological experts confirmed that different parts across the state had been impacted by significant hail.

Utility workers were working to restore electricity service throughout the damaged zones, with dozens of response units deployed to address the numerous electricity disruptions.

At the same time, around 1,000 households in Victoria also faced electricity disruptions after the capital city recorded its heaviest rainfall in a year and a half.

State Emergency Services handled over five hundred emergency reports across the area, primarily for building damage but also for fallen timber and flooding.

Weather Forecast

Humid circumstances were predicted to continue along much of Queensland's east this week as a low-pressure trough continued to draw in moisture against the coast.

The following day was forecast to be the most rainy day, with persistent storm activity expected across different parts of both regions.

Medical Alert

Health officials warned that there was an increased chance of thunderstorm-induced asthma across the countryside regions, specifically given the current weather patterns.

This warning comes after previous incidents where similar conditions led to substantial respiratory problems in the area.
